Minoxidil
Minoxidil (name brand Rogaine) is just one of the only FDA proven hair loss treatments approved for treating hair loss. Minoxidil was originally created as a drug for treating hypertension and high blood pressure when it was noticed that one of its side affects was hair growth. Soon after, Minoxidil was tested for use as a topical solution to grow hair. The FDA was impressed enough that it was approved as the first treatment for hair loss. Along with Minoxidil, the only other hair growth products that have been approved by the FDA is Propecia. However, Minoxidil is usually the first line of defense in the battle against hair loss.

Minoxidil works by revitalizing the shrunken hair follicles attempting to increase their size. When using Minoxidil every day, the hair follicles may increase in size making the growing phase become longer producing thicker and more lustrous hairs. The substance is a clear alcohol based solution and is generally applied to a person’s thinning area with either an eyedropper or a sprayer twice a day. Some users choose to do both doses once a day like at the end of their work day before they go to bed.
The Minoxidil solution is approved and available in two different strengths, Regular (2%) and Extra Strength (5%). The success rates are quite high bordering on half and the cost of a 4 month supply is less than twenty dollars at warehouse membership stores. The key is to purchase a generic brand as Rogaine and Minoxidil are the exact same thing. Many users report that they can go swimming and running again after a few months as their hair thinning has stopped considerably. Research on Minoxidil claims that the product only works on balding scalps and the crown area. However, people with hair loss will swear to you that Minoxidil does work on the frontal hairline areas and will cease fallout in that area. It is also appropriate to maintain the benefits of a healthy diet whenever you start a new medicine or topical solution. You certainly want to consult your doctor before starting a hair loss regimen and maintain your optimal strength whenever trying something new.
